“One Block” is how far ahead I can think when I’m out on a jog. When I hit the dreaded “wall” and its insecurity, pain, and hopelessness, the remaining distance seems impossible.
But one block is doable. After that, another block doesn’t seem too far. From there, one block is a piece of cake.
You don’t have to write a novel, you just have to finish a paragraph or two. Eventually, you’ll get there. If you’re a writer, you probably know Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird. I hope this site will help me become a better writer block by block.
I love words (verbs, in particular). I love dropping a mound of sentences on a page and then carving it down to one shiny idea.
My career is in media relations, which has exposed me to so many exciting new ways to communicate. Previously, I was a reporter and an editor, so I have a strong education in the school of “Less is More.” I admire concise writing above all else, and I’ll never stray too far from that principle. Nonetheless, I hope to dwell in a few more moments here than I’m accustomed to.
A huge part of being a good writer is sharing what you’ve done. So while this site is for me, it wouldn’t be meaningful without you. Thank you for giving some of your time to me. Tell me what you think, and if you’re a writer, please leave a link to your own work.
Matt
